Cost:

Scouts purchase the Light of Christ workbook on their own.  The Diocesan Catholic Committee on Scouts does not charge for the actual Light of Christ medal or the BSA religious knot patch the Scout will receive. The Committee is able to provide these free to the Scouts through donations it receives.

Presentation of Award:

The BSA religious knot patch will be mailed to the pastor of the Scout’s local parish in late January.  The pastor will be asked to present the knot to the Scout on Scout Sunday or some other Mass so that the Scout will be recognized by his parish for his work on this religious award.  Actual practices may vary depending upon the pastor.

The Light of Christ Award will be presented to the Scout at a special ceremony held each February at the Cathedral in Belleville.  The Bishop generally presides over the ceremony schedule permitting.  Each Scout will receive a letter from the Diocesan Catholic Committee on Scouts with more information on the Ceremony in late January or early February.

Scout's Role:

Actively work on the activities with his parents or guardians. Keep the Religious Emblems Counselor informed of his progress.

Parent's Role:

Actively work on the activities with their son. He may need your help with Bible readings and getting information. Keep the Religious Emblems Counselor informed of the Cub's progress.

Suggested Time Requirements:

1 - 90 days. Although the book could be completed in four to six hours, the goal of earning a religious emblem is to help the Cub develop a personal relationship with Jesus, so it is suggested that steps be spread over several weeks. This will help the Cub understand that this is a long-term commitment, not a one-time project.
